The Snell Lab at the Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute (HWI) is seeking a motivated and skilled Research Associate to join our team in studying proteins impacted by low-dose radiation. The successful candidate will work on a DOE supported project, initially funded for 3-years but with the possibility of extension. They will be responsible for the design, expression, and purification of these proteins, contributing to structural studies and interacting with a cross-disciplinary team that links experimental and artificial intelligence techniques.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and clone protein constructs.
  • Express and purify proteins for structural and functional analysis.
  • Apply computational tools to support experimental work.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary team members to explore the effects of low-dose radiation on proteins.
  • Maintain detailed records of experiments and results.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and publications based on research findings.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Structural Biology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in cloning, protein expression, and purification techniques.
  • Basic computational skills relevant to protein studies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work in the US.

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Experience with structural biology techniques such as X-ray crystallography, NMR, or cryo-EM.
