Cryo-EM Data Analyst Position

The Cryo-EM Center at the Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute (HWI) seeks a scientist to enrich its scientific activities. The newly-built Center is purposefully geared for addressing fundamental questions in biomedical sciences and for performing high-resolution cryo-EM structure-based drug design. The successful candidate will play a significant role in the Center and work with a group of PhD-level scientists on different scientific directions.

A successful candidate is expected to be a highly motivated scientist with strong skills in cryo-EM image analysis, 3D reconstruction, and cryo-EM-based model building, refinement, and validation. Preferences will be given to those with graduate and/or postdoctoral training in structure determination using high-resolution cryo-EM. Skills in computational system management and optimization for workflow of data analysis will be highly valued. Knowledge in biological systems or bench experiences will be a plus. The candidate preferentially should hold a PhD degree in structural biology, biochemistry or biophysics, or have demonstrated solid practical training in cryo-EM data analysis by postdoctoral publications. The successful candidate will work with different teams of commercial or academic scientists, and thus must demonstrate good interpersonal skills, effective time management in a multitasking setting, strong commitment to achieving preset goals in a timely fashion, and sound ethics in science and professional activities.

The position will be based at HWI in Buffalo, NY.

It is equivalent to a research assistant professorship in the university setting with a fraction of time reserved for R&D activity, which will qualify the candidate to apply for external funding. Compensation level will be commensurate with candidate’s experiences and qualifications. For a candidate currently living out of the area, relocation support may be provided.

Benefits: This is a full-time position coming with our generous fringe package that entails health insurance, dental and vision coverage, and a retirement plan with a 6% employer contribution after one year of service.

Preferred start date: November 1st, 2021. The position will remain open until being filled.
