HWI’s dedicated researchers explore new ideas and breakthroughs, and conduct intensive follow-up research that leads to greater understanding and application of their findings. The Institute’s output is fundamental knowledge that describes how life works at the molecular level, an essential foundation for developing new medications.
Recently, the Gulick Group published a study in Nature about the proteins that produce many naturally-derived drugs. Their work illustrates how these proteins work and will help to enable the creation or discovery of new drugs.
When asked about the impact, Dr. Gulick said, “This is the highest profile publication from my group and reflects the contributions of nearly everyone who has worked with me for the last 10 years. It was very satisfying to achieve a goal we have pursued for a very long time.”
